National Geographic obtained the brief video captured by an ROV (remotely operated vehicle) captured the creature on film while operating on a Shell oil rig.
The Magnapinna squid is a rare sighting, and look eerily similar to the aliens encountered in the 1996 Hollywood disaster film epic, Independence Day.
