Video: Pet Chimp Travis Attacks Charla Nash, Sandra Herold, Police in Stamford, Connecticut

Chimpanzee Travis was shot and killed by Stamford police after a violent rampage.

Travis the Chimp was shot and killed by police in Stamford, Connecticut Monday. The bizarre incident happened when the pet primate went on a rampage, badly mauling one woman, Charla Nash and injuring Travis the Chimp's owner Sandra Herold and two police officers.

"It was a very serious attack. She (the victim) suffered a tremendous loss of blood, terrible facial injuries, body injuries and hand injuries," Capt. Richard Conklin said.

"The chimpanzee exited the house and for some reason, we don't know what triggered it, attacked the visitor," Conklin said. "It was a very extreme attack, a very brutal attack."

The chimpanzees owner tried to stop her pet from attacking her friend Charla Nash by stabbing Travis in the back with a buthcers knife several times.

Police had to be provide security to medical teams who were dispatched to treat the badly wounded woman. Paramedics refused to enter the house where the attack happened for fears they too would fall victim to Travis the Chimp.

Police offers attending were even forced back to their vehicles after Travis reappeared from the building. The angry, yet intelligent chimp went around to the driver's-side door and opened it, the scared police offer was then forced to fire shots into Travis.

The Chimp wasn't done just yet, finding enough energy to retreat back to his living quarters, where he died.

Charla Nash, aged 55, sustained injuries to her face, neck and hands. Charla Nash's injuries were desribed as "life-threatening".

When he was younger, Travis appeared on TV commercials for Old Navy and Coca-Cola, made an appearance on the "Maury Povich Show" and took part in a television pilot

UPDATE: Police have released chilling tape of the 911 call made during the attack.
