
The Finance Minister of Japan, Shoichi Nakagawa told reporters in Tokyo today that he would be stepping down after a scandal involving the government official giving a G7 Rome news conference while clearly intoxicated.
"I deeply apologize to the prime minister, the people and members of parliament for the significant trouble I caused,” Nakagawa told reporters in Tokyo today. Nakagawa said that a medical examination today diagnosed that he was exhausted, in addition to suffering from back pain and a cold.

Nakagawa was at a financial summit in Rome discussing the global economic and financial crisis. Japans economy, the worlds second largest, retracted significantly in the last financial quarter. The government of Japan is now under extreme political pressure.
