Prison officials in California have relased a new photo of infamous murderer Charles Manson.

California corrections officials released this photograph of Charles Manson taken on Wednesday. The new photo of Charles Manson shows an ageing mass murderer said the LA Times, complete with receding hairline, fading forehead swastika carving and a thick, heavily graying beard.

The 74-year-old Charles Manson has been incarcerated in prison for conspiring in the 1969 murders of seven people including actress Sharon Tate and coffee heiress Abigail Folger.

Charles Manson is considered the face of the dark side of America's 1960's counter-culture.

Charles Manson is an inmate at Corcoran State Prison and had his death sentence commented in 1972 when California temporarily scrapped its capital punishment laws.
The 40th anniversary of the Manson killings is in August. Manson and other members of his so-called family were convicted of killing seven people during a bloody rampage in the Los Angeles area during two August nights in 1969.
Prosecutors said that Manson and his followers were trying to incite a race war that he believed was prophesied in the Beatles' song "Helter Skelter."
