What is this, it appears to be the main man of Russian, former President and current Prime Minister of the former Soviet Union Vladimir Putin dressed as a tourist meeting visiting US President Ronald Reagan back in the day.
Its not confirmed, but matching evidence and reckoning from Reagan's official photographer Peter Souza seems to almost prove that this is indeed 80's Vladimir Putin with Ronald Reagan.
An apparently younger looking Putin is dressed as a tourist in this photo below, taken in 1988 at Red Square. At the time the Reagan administrations relationship with Russia was warming as the US courted the leadership of what nobody would have thought at the time would soon become the former USSR.
Picture: Reagan and Putin?
And as you may know, Vladimir Putin was an agent with the Soviet Union's secret intelligence and operations service known as the KGB. At the time Putin was a Colonel in the powerful agency.
Very little is known about Vladimir Putin's KGB days, but there's no doubt the feisty Russian leader would have got up to some pretty nasty stuff in order to make his way to the top of Russia.
The man who took the photograph, President Ronald Reagan's officiall photographer Peter Souza is adamant that it is indeed Vladimir Putin pictured.
Peter Souza recalled, in an old article from NPR, what happened that day in Red Square when Ronald Reagan was shown around by then Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.
Peter Souza from NPR story: (I) shot photos of Reagan as the president toured Moscow's Red Square with then-Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. Gorbachev introduced Reagan to various tourists, who asked the American president pointed questions about subjects such as human rights in the United States. Souza says he remembers turning to one of the Secret Service agents standing nearby. "I can't believe these tourists in the Soviet Union are asking these pointed questions." The agent replied, "Oh, these are all KGB families."
US secret service happily let US President Ronald Reagan near KGB agents! Yikes!
