Video: TV Reporter Darren Hunt and Cameraman Ric Dupont Arrested Filming Crash in El Paso, Texas

Angry cop arrestes news crew, all caught on tape.

A Texas cop in an angry mood arrested a TV news reporter and cameraman on a highway after the news crew tried to interview a witness to a crash.

The crew from KVIA-TV in El Paso, Darrent Hunt and Ric Dupont, can be seen being yelled at by Police Seagrant Raul Ramirez to get back into their news SUV, as the news camera rolls.

The reporter, Darrent Hunt, responds that they are just doing their job and then proceeds to walk toward a crash witness. When the sergeant stops him, he walks away, while responding that his photographer can "shoot if he wants to."

Seconds later, the officer places the reporter against an SUV and handcuffs him. Moments later the policeman turns his attention to photographer Ric Dupont. The video shows the camera being put to the ground and Ric Dupont is also handcuffed.

The news director form the Texas station KVIA wrote this on her personal blog just hours ago:

Darren and Ric parked on the shoulder on the opposite lanes of the freeway, with eastbound traffic. There were half a dozen cars there, too, with drivers who got out of their cars to assist - or watch.

They were doing what journalists do: gathering information. Darren noticed men in fatigues were tending to the injured, and he identified a story. "Heroes!" he thought. He and Ric immediately got to work.

We can presume Sgt. Ramirez had told them to leave before the incident escalated. As he's climbing the fence, you can hear him saying "Don't make me tell you again." So, yes, our crew had been told to leave.
