Aubrey Louis Berry : I Shot Dolla , Music Promoter Admits to Shooting Rapper in Shopping Mall Fight

Aubrey Louis Berry charged with murdering up and coming US rapper, Dolla, AKA Roderick Anthony Burton)

A 23-year-old music promoter has admitted that he fired on rapper Dolla at an LA Shopping Mall after 'feeling threatened'.

Californian Police allege Aubrey Berry, a music promoter who had had an altercation with Dolla (real name Roderick Anthony Burton) at an Atlanta strip club earlier this month, fired at Burton, 21, and two other people who were with him.

“This is not a murder case,” said Berry’s attorney, Howard R. Price. “At worst it’s a manslaughter case, at best it’s a case of self defense,” he said.

Authorities in California have charged Aubrey Berry with one count of murder and two counts of assault with a firearm. Police also told the LA Times that no other weapons were recovered from the scene and Dolla was unarmed when he was shot.

"Our prosecutors believe the evidence was sufficient for a murder filing," said Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney's office. "We try our cases in the courtroom, not on the sidewalk."

Atlanta based Dolla was rushed to hospital from the LA Shopping mall shooting, where he later died.

Authorities allege that 23-year-old Aubrey Berry and 21-year-old Roderick Burton had previously brawled at the Platinum 21 Adult Entertainment club in Atlanta, Georgia. Police in California say that it appears Dolla and a few members of his possi beat up Aubrey Berry during the Platinum club brawl.

Its alleged that Aubrey Louis Berry was meeting with business associates in LA, and Dolla and his crew had happened to just arrived at the mall after getting off a flight from Atlanta when the shooting happened.

The lawyer for Aubrey Louis Berry tried to angle that Dolla was shot by his client because Aubrey Berry felt his life was in danger.

“He perceived that his life was in danger," Aubrey Berry's attorney said. The attorney did not deny that Berry shot and killed Burton, and said his client was cooperating with authorities.

LA Police department officers found a 9-millimeter handgun in Aubrey Berry's possession when he was arrested trying to flee California at LAX. The attorney for Berry also say that Aubrey Berry has a concealed weapons permit either from the city of Atlanta or the state of Georgia.
