Google Down: May 14,2009

May 14, 2009 will go down as the day that Google stood still, well at least for some US and European based Google useres.

Social networking web sites like Twitter are buzzing with comments from users across parts of the United States and Europe about either very slow or suddenly non-existant Google services.

Google services such as Gmail, Google search and Google's advertising software, Adsense were down for users particularly on the west coast of North America. Oregon and California seemed to be the main centres of The Day Google Stood Still.

Other states with Google outages include massachusetts, Colorado, Virginia and Arizona. People in particular areas of Mississippi, Texas, Indiana New Jersey and New York also were reported to be down.

Others across North America stated that everything was Googlerific on their ends.

"Everything is dead on my end! Even my Google AdSense ads are not showing on my blog anymore!

I am currently using Yahoo to search. Wow. Anyway, guess it's good there are alternatives, otherwise we would be screwed," one user wrote on a blog post comment.

"In California, every google service is NOT running from gmail to simple google search. Frustrating!," said another.

The cause of the Google outage was yet to be determinedd. Other search engines such as Yahoo, and Live were working as per usual. It's not known if the US government or the US Department Homeland Security were involved in solving the problem or investigating possible malicious causes.
