Microsoft's new search engine Bing, coming with a massive marketing budget....Microsoft, falling behind in the search engine wars, mainly to Google and a little to Yahoo! will officially relaunch its search engine under the brand name, Bing.
As we reported earlier, Microsoft will be spending around $100 million US on an aggressive marketing campaign across various media platforms to make Bing a regular web site destination for all those seeking answers.
To make Bing happen, Seattle bases Internet and personal computing age behemoth Microsoft had to bring an old weapon out of IT retirement, Brian MacDonald.
Microsoft Bing serach engine creator, Microsoft serach engine saver? Hangin' out in Seattle during the making of Bing, can Bing kill off Google? After leaving Microsoft in 2001, the creator of Microsoft Project and Microsoft Outlook, began to yearn again for the life of Information Technology wizardry.
In 2007, the executives at Microsoft had had enough of playing second or third fiddle to fellow US West Coast giant Google. It was time for the old Microsoft Empire to strike back. In April 1007 Brian MacDonald who's work had been so crucial to Microsoft's amazing world-wide multi-billion dollar success was back.
"Search is kind of the Mount Everest of the industry right now," Bing creator Brian MacDonald told PC Magazine said. "That's really the mountain that you want to climb."
Several of Microsoft Bing's features are things championed by Brian MacDonald, something the Microsoft business folk were happy to oblige by, given the software engineers amazing contribution to the corporation.
Brian MacDonald's biggest contribution to Bing is that the new engine has a left-hand navigation pane for moving among different types of searches. Microsoft Bing also breaks a search query down into a number of possible categories, CNet online said.
Microsoft Bing provides users with a hover section that sits over a particular result, getting a Wordpress style pop-up window with more information. Bing will show information such as the query terms in context in the hover window.
Microsoft Bing also brings in more information that old man Google.
"I don't think we are trying to do something unnatural to have the person stay within the site," Brian MacDonald said.

More about Bing: What's so good about Bing? Compared to the other major search engines?
The most important part of Microsoft Bing is the way it parses and displays search results, technology media note.
Whereas Google emphasizes a stark, quick-loading design and a list of highly relevant search results, Bing's search results are organized into Search Categories.
For example Bing will display Search Categories; "Web, Maps, Images, and Health".
Microsoft Bing creates Search Categories dynamically in response to the search query. Microsoft Bing also brings an edge from Microsoft's new science driven technology thinking strategy.
Recently Microsoft acquired new search engine technology and innovations through a purchase of the firm Powerset. The new Bing search technology attempts to figure out the searcher's intent rather than relying heavily on matching keywords to Web documents, unlike Google or Yahoo! Microsoft PR people say.
Stefan Weitz calls Live Search for Microsoft, calls Bing a "decision engine".
The individual intent recognition technology in Microsoft Bing, Stefan Weitz says can help a user of Bing explore, research, and find what you are looking for better than arch rival Google.
"Google has done a great job of turning the word Google into a verb," Stefan Weitz reckons.
