Honduras Coup: Manuel Zelaya arrested, deported by military.

The President of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya, has been deposed after being arrested and deported by the nations military.
Sunday morning in Honduras capital Tegucigalpa, military chopper hovers, black smoke rises after unidentified incident.

Thousands of people quickly gathered at the Presidential Palace after hearing the news, violence broke out with Honduran troops firing tear gas at many pro-government protesters soon after.

A pro-government military TV station went off the air, moments after announcing the news and telling people to gather in the capital to support President Manuel Zelaya, reports say.

A journalist from Reuters said that more than 200 armed soldiers in combat gear arrive at the Presidential palace and at least two military jets were seen flying over the capital.

Shots were reported at the Presidential Palace of Manuel Zelaya, reports say.

Earlier Spanish newspaper El Pais quoted Menuel Zelaya saying everything was as normal.

President Manuel Zelaya told El Pais that a planned attempt to wrest power from him was thwarted after the Washington DC declined to back the move.

"Everything was in place for the coup and if the U.S. embassy had approved it, it would have happened. But they did not ... I'm only still here in office thanks to the United States," Manuel Zelaya said late Saturday.

President Manuel Zelaya was arrested by troops after they surrounded his home ahead of a constitutional referendum that asked voters to approve a law that would see Manuel Zelaya run for anotehr term in office.

Local radio station HRN reported that leftists Manuel Zelaya was deported by the military who flew him to Venezuela, and was expected to be in the company Hugo Chaves, a Manuel Zelaya ally. Another report said Manuel Zelaya and family were flown to Costa Rica.
