Breaking News :
US authorities say they have arrested two men in relation to a handgun being smuggled onto US Airways flight 1195, Thursday morning US ET.
Local Philadelphia news says an observant witness at Philadelphia international airport reported seeing a US Airways employee take a bag and get around a security checkpoint without taking the bag through the security equipment.
The witness told an airport employee after thinking the activity was suspicious, reports said.
The flight US Airways Flight 1195 to Phoenix, Arizona was taxiing for takeoff when it was brought back to the gate by authorities after they decided to search the plane after the witness report.
Passengers on US Airways Flight 1195 were then taken off the plane and a search of passengers with metal detectors was conducted. The plane was also searched and security agents even ripped open several flight seats in the search.
The incident took place at about 7:40 a.m local time Thursday. US Airways Flight 1195 Philadelphia to Phoenix, originally scheduled to depart at 7:10 a.m., was delayed almost four hours, finally taking off shortly after 11am local.
When TSA went onto the airplane to check it out, they found an unloaded handgun weapon in the bag on US Airways Flight 1195. The 9mm handgun was not loaded, but bullets were located elsewhere, perhaps in the smuggled bag. Reports also say a box cutter knife was recovered from Flight 1195.
US Airways Flight 1195 later departed the airport shortly after 10:30 a.m Thursday, after an employee of US airways and a passenger where arrested and are now being questioned.
Philadelphia police, the FBI and the TSA are investigating.
