Video: Fruitvale Baby Sea Lion Rescued from Freeway

A baby sea lion, named Fruitvale, has been rescued by Californian police after the cute seal cub wandered onto a very busy San Francisco freeway, news reports said.

Stunned drivers were lucky not to have hit baby sea lion Fruitvale, after they found him on Interstate 880. First calls abut Fruitvale's plight came in from Interstate 880 drivers in the early morning dayligh hours "walking" in the center freeway lane.

Authorities said Fruitvale the lost baby seal somehow made it onto Interstate 880 from San Francisco Bay estuary in the middle of the night.

Police from Oakland managed to rounded up Fruitvale the seal pup and take Fruitvale to The Marine Mammal Center, a nonprofit facility that helps sick and injured marine animals.

Reporters who contacted the Marine Mammal Centre said Fruitvale the baby seal was "active and alert but slightly malnourished."
