Test Tube Sperm : Professor Karim Nayernia and Team Create Sperm in a Test Tube, Could Render the Male Human Obsolete

Sperm created in a test tube by team led by Professor Karim Nayerniain UK....

Could this be the end of the role of men in humanity?

Scientists are playing down speculation that the role of male humans in reproduction could be obsolete after UK researchers successfully created the first sperm in a test tube.'

News reports say a team of scientists extracted stem cells from a donated embryo to create the test tube sperm.

The scientists from Newcastle in England stored the donated stem cells in a tank of liquid nitrogen. The test tube sperm team then heated up the stem cells to body temperature and put in a chemical mixture to encourage the production of the sperm.

Cells used to develop sperm were then extracted from the scientists stem cell cocktail and within six weeks, the cells had grown into sperm.

The first ever test tube human made sperm was created.

Researcher Karim Nayernia, who led the team of scientists from Newcastle University and the NorthEast England Stem Cell Institute, said the history-making process could take half a decaade to perfect, giving time for men to continue to play some sort of role in the continuation of the human race.

"This understanding could help us develop new ways to help couples suffering infertility so they can have a child which is genetically their own," Professor Karim Nayernia said.

Professor Karim Kanyernia continued: "It will also allow scientists to study how cells involved in reproduction are affected by toxins, for example, why young boys with leukaemia who undergo chemotherapy can become infertile for life - and possibly lead us to a solution."
