Dell Computers announces entry into the fast growing Smartphone cell phone/mobile phone market to compete with the likes of Apple's iPhone, the Blackberry, Palm Pre and offerings from dozens of other phone companies like Nokia.Speculation has been mounting in the technology and mobile communications industry about the Delldroid device that massive technology and computer maker Dell is about to enter into the growing Smartphone market.
The Smartphone Android device from Dell was still speculation and rumour until a few hours ago, when Dell CEO Michael Dell confirmed the new Smartphone device set for launch some time in 2010.
The Dell Delldroid Smartphone could mark a significant milestone for the consumer technology and smartphone market and sees Dell move into an area dominated by the likes of Apple's iPhone, the Palm Pre and the Blackberry Smartphone.
Reports suggested that big telecom company, AT&T was likely to be the provider of the Delldroid Android Smartphone when it comes in 2010, after an article in the Wall Street Journal earlier.
The Dell Delldroid Smartphone news comes as news reports say the telecommunications infrastructure around the United States was coming under increasing pressure to perform with millions of new smartphones capable of big internet access speeds drain 3G phone systems.
The confirmation by the Dell business executive about the Delldroid Smartphone device comes at a time when Smartphone sales are smashing through the checkout counters.
Reports suggestion Smartohone sales in the second quarter of the 2009 financial year some 40 million smartphone sales worldwide were sold, despite the gloomy economic conditions. The Smatphone market surge was a 27 percent gain from the same period last year.
Smartphone industry insiders were luke warm about Dell computers entry into the lucrative Smartphone mobile phone market:
"Everyone goes after the smartphone market because it's the billion-unit pot of gold, the fastest-growing segment in handsets. And, for a lot of these companies, there's nowhere else to expand. Intel is facing this dilemma: After you're dominating servers, PCs, where do you go next? So everyone wants to go mobile," an industry insider said in response to the Dell Delldroid news breaking.
"But Dell's core competency is computers, and they're losing market share, do they have the resources to invest to make this successful? I've got to question that, as well as if it's in their best interest as opposed to focusing resources on what they do."
The Dell Delldroid smartphone device is set for lunch in 2010 on the AT&T network. Time will tell if the Delldroid can compete with the excitement surrounding the Apple iPhone, Blackberry and many others.
