Taiwan Earthquake... Saturday night, 19th December 2009 causes apartment building collapse in Taiwan capital Taipei, other damage closer to epicenter expected.

A 6.4 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Taiwan has caused at least one building to collapse, caused car accidents and injured at least 4.

Local media said an apartment building in the capital, Taipei had sustained a collapse as the quake hit on Saturday evening.

The 6.4 quake hit off the east coast of central Taiwan Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 09:02:16 PM local time, the USGS reported online.

The December 19 2009 Taiwan earthquake epicentre was situated some 25 km (15 miles) SSE of Hua-lien, Taiwan, under the sea at a depth of 45 kilometers.

Reports said the quake was felt all across Taiwan, with tall buildings swaying and people running out into the street.

Windows shattered from high rises, sending debris onto streets. High-speed railway suspended operations and there were many car accidents.
