RIP "The Rev" James Owen Sullivan

Jimmy Sullivan, one of the worlds best drummers has died....

RIP "The Rev" James Owen Sullivan....

James Owen Sullivan: February 10, 1981 - December 28, 2009

Drummer for US band Avenged Sevenfold, James Owen Sullivan, better known as "The Rev," was found dead in his Southern California home December 28 20009.

James Owen Sullivan was found dead at his Huntington Beach home approximately 1 p.m. local time. James Owen Sullivan was 28 years old.

The Orange County Coroner's Office was investigating the dead of James Owen Sullivan, preliminary reports said James Owen Sullivan's death may have been of natural causes.

Some fans, however, point to the musicians history of hard drug use as the a possible cause of The Revs passing.

Statement from Avenged Sevenfold web site: It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we tell you of the passing today of Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan. Jimmy was not only one of the world's best drummers, but more importantly he was our best friend and brother. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jimmy's family and we hope that you will respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Jimmy you are forever in our hearts.
We love you.

M Shadows, Synyster Gates, Zacky Vengeance and Johnny Christ/

Fans knew James Owen Sullivan better by his stage name, The Rev, or The Reverend Tholomew Plague.

Avenged Sevenfold formed in Huntington Beach in 1999. The Avenged Sevenfold won the Best New Artist award from the MTV Video Music Awards in 2006. The five man metalcore band was working on their fifth album at the time of James Owen Sullivan's passing.

This band saved me in a sad point in life and now I don't know how they will be without the Rev. I got to see them in concert and he was so much fun to watch play, he really loved it. Good Bye Rev, You are so missed.

This has to be the worst news I've heard this year. He was so young and talented and fucking awesome. I could've seen them last year but it rained and they canceled which sucked. It's going to be hard finding another drummer like him..

Kergash said... December 29, 2009 at 7:19 PM

This is seriously this years most deppressing news, most likely the most deppressing news I've heard ever from the celebrity world. Such a talented drummer, and such an inspiring person with this awesome attitude and personality. He will be sorely missed, may he rest in peace.

After some reflection and time, I hope that the band continues on. I know they were in the studio recording a new record and hope to hear what they recorded with Rev. R.I.P Mutha, you will be missed...Prayers out to all his family and mates alike....

i love A7X i can play all the songs on guitar they where my inspiration to do metal music and made me who i am today, i respected the rev he was outgoing fun to be around and hillarious in general took no shit from anyone, i never got to see them live and it saddens me greatly i cant now, A7X wwill not be the same without the rev his drumming was insane as well as melodic when needed he was truely talented and it is unfair and unjust he died so young no matter what the cause is, he will be remebered by all those connected to A7X always x

I don't think that Avenged Sevenfold will be the same anymore. I just hope they don't get a new drummer. They cannot replace the legendary Rev.
♥♥♥ We Love You, Revvy! Be safe up there!

My biggest Regret is that I never got to see them in concert. I hope they don't call it quits because of this. He was a great drummer and was my hero and inspiration to play more than one instrument and rock out and have fun. You will be missed Rev :'(

Seize the day or die regretting the time you lost
It's empty and cold without you here, too many people to ache over

I see my vision burn, I feel my memories fade with time
But I'm too young to worry
These's streets we traveled on will undergo our same lost past

I found you here, now please just stay for a while
I can move on with you around
I hand you my mortal life, but will it be forever?
I'll do anything for a smile, holding you 'til our time is done
We both know the day will come, but I don't want to leave you

Robert Zero said... December 30, 2009 at 8:03 PM

Dear god, the only thing I ask of you.. is to hold HIM now the we're not around anymore...

and please, take this sadness of me... =/

Why, why...? I just don't understand... I feel so empty... I don't know...

Jimmy, be wherever you are, I hope you are happy as you we're while here...

we love you from the bottom of our hearts...

Keep on rocking Rev!

This really sucks. He was an incredible musician. He was a drummer and he inspired me to just to learn any instrument. I don't know how many times the music of this band got me through a hard time in my life, and its hard to see my favorite member of the band go. I feel that we've not only lost an incredible drummer, but a good friend. Oh well, at least now The Rev can jam in the afterlife with dimebag darrel now. Anyway, we just just gotta keep our chins up, and see him when we catch up. R.I.P. Jimmy.

We still feel the beating from your drums. Though you only spent a short time at this place we call earth, you're memory as one of the greatest metal drummers will live on forever. rest in peace Rev.

"My life. Youve always been there. Now your gone, and my heads spinning. Left the childhood, left the memories, left the good times in the past. Moving on, you're time has run out."

Jimmy, you were and always will be my hero. I've never admired anyone more than you. From your amazing sense of humor to your insane skill on the drums. I got to see Avenged Sevenfold play once on March 24, 2009 in Chattanooga, TN. My dream came true that night. I got to meet my favorite band. The band that has been a huge part of my live since 2002. I waited outside in the back just to see you guys get on your tour bus. Matt was the first to come. He greeted us all and signed autographs. I got my ticket signed and got a picture take with him. After that we waited. Zacky came out. He said hey. But he got straight on the bus. Then came Brian. We yelled for him... But he went on by. The Jimmy came. He didn't show us much attention. But he stuck his arm out and I grabbed it. Out of that whole crowd. I was the only one to touch his hand. And it was the greatest honor. I didn't need anything signed or a picture. That night. I got to see and shake hands with my hero.

Jimmy Sullivan, you have changed my life in phenomenal
ways. And you will be sorely missed. Ive never cried as hard as I did the morning of December 29 when I heard the heartbreaking news. I'll always keep you close to my heart. May your soul rest in peace, Jimmy.

I speak on behalf of all your fans when I say this.
We love you. And we will always remembered you.

Good bye, James Owen Sullivan.

I have read and reread all the blogs, comments , stories etc... Everyday since the Revs untimely passing thinking maybe I'd beable to think of something to write to express my sadness and my thoughts on how it's so amazing how someone I don't even know, never met, live thousands of miles apart and like prob 100 degrees of separation AT LEAST, how can it even sound for real when I say u helped me in hard times of my life in ways I'll always remember. I feel the world has lost one of the 2 only most fabalous n talented, give me the chills like nothing else and indescribable. Avenged sevenfold givese the ability to loose myself for a while And just be happy no matter what yet times I can feel complete utter sadness so deep within and you guys give me the ability to breakdown and hurt and not be alone and feel as if I'm the only person who's sad. You've been pArt of my life for years now I honestally am a total A7X JUNKIE. I forgot aong tiMe ago what a radio sounds like all I know is the CD's and the blown out speakers in my lol car.

James may u find peace and comfort in ur new place.
U inspired so many and made much impact here on earth however u were needed elsewhere. Maybe u will meet my bestest friend of like 16 years who passes just weeks before u and maybe u both can get together and like look at me and watch me make an Ass outt myself while I'm blairing down the road rockin out.
God bless ur family, friends and loves ones in their loss.
Seize the day Rev.

My world revolved around, you, rev! And now your gone, my world has tumbled down. I, myself am in a band called Tangled Dreams and me and my friend are both singers who also are learning to play the drum. You were and still are our inspiration! We love you and my room is COVERED in pictures of you. Anyway our band recently made a song called "It's A Rev's World" dedicated, of course, to you of your life as a Avenged Sevenfold drummer. Or, as we say the worlds greatest drummer. Life will never be he same for me again. I love you, miss you and I hope more than everthing you rest in peace. My life, my everything, my love, my universe. My Rev. Xxxxx

THE REV rest in peace
