Prius Disaster for Toyota

In an emotional press conference today in Japan, the CEO of Toyota apologies multiple times after announcing a world wide recall of the hybrid Prius.

More than 400,000 hybrid Toyota Prius cars are being recalled worldwide amid uncertainly about the future of the Prius brand.

The global Toyota recall effects the 2010 Prius hybrid, as well as the 2010 Lexus HS 250h and is due to a software glitch that can affect the cars' anti-lock braking system (ABS).

2010 Prius and 2010 HS 250h owners have reported experiencing inconsistent brake feel during slow application of brakes on certain road surfaces when the ABS is activated.

Toyota is contacting all Prius customers to arrange to have the cars repaired.

A Toyota spokesperson said: "Some customers can experience inconsistent break feel when the breaks are applied lightly, for example when driving over a pot hole, bumpy or slippery road surfaces".

"The brake pedal feel may not be what they expect but the break itself does not stop working.

"It will stop the car but the driver may need to press harder on the break under these conditions."
