The star of Discovery Channel show Deadliest Catch, Captain Phil Harris, has died. Captain Phil Harris was just 53.
Reports said Phil Harris had been suffering after a stroke a few weeks ago while unloading crabs from his fishing boat in Alaska.
The passing of Captain Phil Harris was announced on the show's Web site late Tuesday night February 9 2010.
"It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad - Captain Phil Harris," sons Jake and Josh Harris said on The Deadliest Catch TV show Web site.
"Dad has always been a fighter and continued to be until the end. For us and the crew, he was someone who never backed down. We will remember and celebrate that strength."
The Discovery Channel, who made Captain Phil Harris and the Deadliest Catch fishing boat crews famous said: "Phil was a devoted father and loyal friend to all who knew him. We will miss his straightforward honesty, wicked sense of humor and enormous heart."
Captain Phil Harris was a 32-year veteran of the fishing industry. His sons worked as deck hands on his boat the F/V Cornelia Marie.
'Deadliest Catch,' depicts the dangerous crab fishing industry, taking viewers on board boats as they navigate the mega cold waters off Alaska.
