Facebook Location Status Update Feature

SILICON VALLEY, California- Facebook is set to announce a massive new feature that will change the way 400 million unique users of the social networking web site can update their status.

Reports said Facebook would unveil a new location based status update feature at its annual Facebook developers conference "f8", sources inside the Facebook company HQ said.

Facebook has been busy behind the scenes preparing for the new location based social media feature, set to move on turf owned by new social media location based services like FourSquare.

The super popular Facebook said it will incorporate location updates for users in two ways: A way for users to status update to share location details and also to allow other apps and developers to offer location services to Facebook users.

Back in November 2009, Facebook implemented a new and controversial terms of use policy that said: “When you share your location with others or add a location to something you post, we treat that like any other content you post.”

“If we offer a service that supports this type of location sharing we will present you with an opt-in choice of whether you want to participate.”

The change in user terms agreement was almost certainly an opportunity for Facebook to pave the way for the location updates feature, that will change the way users interact with each other on the social media platform.

The status update feature will mean social media will become even more important in the social lives of million around the world. High amounts of location status actives will likely create all sorts of opportunities for people to interact more in the real world and take social media to the next level.

When asked to comment on the forthcoming status update feature, Facebook PR staffers said: “We are constantly experimenting with new ideas and products internally. We don’t have anything more to share at this time.”
