Madeleine Pulver Sydney Drama

The victim of what at this stage appears to be a bizarre "collar bomb" incident is an 18-year-old Sydney High School student named Madeleine Pulver.

Wenona School student Madeleine Pulver is the woman at the centre of the bizarre incident in her Sydney home.

Sydney media reported Wednesday afternoon August 3 2011 that police responded to a phone call about a potential explosive device at a mansion in the wealthy Sydney suburb of Mosman.

Reports said a man wearing a balaclava entered the home and reportedly attached the device to Ms Pulver.

Officials have since spent hours struggling to free Madeleine Pulver from what appears to be a device that is being treated as being very serious.

“It’s a very serious incident where the life of a young lady is potentially at risk and we’re dealing with it in that light," New South Wales assistant commisioner Mark Murdoch told media covering the Madeleine Pulver incident.

The authorities were seeking international help in dealing with the unfamiliar device.

School friends spoke about their friend on Twitter and Facebook.

"Maddie, I'm hoping and praying for you right now," one school friend wrote.

Update: Just after midnight NSW police said Maddie Pulver was released and is safe...

Sydney Collar Bomb Girl

Police in Sydney, Australia are attempting to defuse a suspected "collar bomb" strapped to an 18-year-old High School girl at her home.

The device was reportedly attached to the woman by a man who had entered the house Wednesday afternoon local time, although this was not confirmed.

Bomb squad members are attempting to diffuse the device at a multi-million dollar Mansion in the wealthy Sydney suburb of Mosman.

The teenager is reported to be the daughter of a wealthy Sydney businessman.

Local media said a "ransom note" was also found at the scene.

Police have evacuated people up to 300 meters on Burrawong Avenue, where a number of rich and famous Australians live, including sports starts and local celebrities.

At the scene, the New South Wales Assistant Police Commissioner said: “While the very delicate operation continues at the house with the bomb squad officers, highly-skilled investigators have been working behind the scenes since the incident was first reported."

“Given the nature of the incident, I am sure you can all appreciate we need to keep the cards very close to our chest.

“The 18-year-old woman is being supported by specialist police inside the home and her parents are being kept fully up-to-date.”

The incident is bizarre and horrifying, with the news shocking the entire city.

The case is similar to a mysterious collar bomb robber incident in 2003 in the US where a man had a bomb device strapped to him and was forced to rob a bank.

The man was eventually stopped by police where a stand off ensued. After negotiations took place for some time the bomb went off around the man's neck, killing him.

Two people, Diehl-Armstrong and Barnes, were later charged and convicted of carrying out the bizarre crime.

Upcoming Hollywood movie '30 Minutes or Less' is loosely based on that incident.

In the year 2000 an explosive placed around a woman's neck detonated in Colombia, killing her and wounding a specialist soldier trying to diffuse it.

The AP reported at the time: "Just before dawn, four men burst into her home on a farm outside town, placed the collar around her neck, and told her they would detonate it at 3 p.m. if she failed to pay them $7,500.

A technician was working on the explosive-packed collar when the device went off at about 1pm."

FARC rebels have also reportedly used the tactic for extortion previously.

The Sydney incident was first reported around 3pm in the afternoon Sydney time. Media crews and a large emergency service contingent remain just outside the mansion in the Sydney northern beaches suburb.

Fire and rescue crews, ambulances, traffic police, bomb squad members, detectives and other officials remain on sight late into the night Wednesday local time.

RIP Myspace Social Media Outlet May Shut Down on June 30 If Buyer Not Found

Update Saturday June 25: What many would call the inevitable demise of Myspace may be greatly exadurated (for now.) A News Corp spokesperson has denied to Newsbizarre the platform's operations would shut June 30 if a buyer for the network could not be found.

News Corp said the below story was "pure fiction" and demanded a retraction.

Despite reports from insiders, Myspace may not shut down June 30, however its hard to see News Corporation continuing to operate the fast declining Myspace if they can't sell the asset.

According to one report in the Telegraph newspaper from London, "MySpace lost $100 million" in the first quarter of 2010 alone.

Myspace, one of the most popular social networking websites in the mid 2000's, is set to "cease operations come June 30," according to reports online from journalists working for The Wall Street Journal.

Its believed owners News Corporation could not find a buyer for the $100 million asking price and will shut down Myspace for good, despite still attracting over 20 million unique users per month.

Myspace, one of the original social media networks, was the most popular social network online from 2006 to 2008, used by hundreds of millions world wide.

But since those 2000's glory days, Myspace has been fast perishing, so much so that even the founders of Myspace Chris DeWolfe and Tom Anderson have failed to update their own status' on Myspace for well over a year.

Over the last 2 years Myspace has lost about one million users a month and the final sword to the heart of Myspace may be just days away.

Rupert Murdoch's News Corp bought Myspace in 2005 for a costly $600 million, however a $900 advertising deal with Google meant the purchase was not a complete disaster.

The social network used to be a uber-hip hub of pop culture, page personalisation and a place where thousands of music artists would showcase their work to fans and potential markets.

Depsite its demise, Myspace was still used widely by teens and young adults keen on discovering new music trends, and for up and coming artists to network and display their content cheaply.

If the Wall Street Journal report is correct, millions of pictures, song uploads, wall posts and more will be consigned to the dustbins of Internet history.

Reasons for the demise of Myspace? Most point the finger at the rise of Facebook with millions of Myspace users migrating to the current king of the social media world. Facebook sucks a lot of energy out of Myspace and other parts of the internet, with some 750 million active Facebook users.

Others blame poor management, and several fatal decisions by the leadership at Myspace for it's demise.

Business Insider: "Mismanagement, a flawed merger, and countless strategic blunders have accelerated Myspace's fall from being one of the most popular websites on earth—one that promised to redefine music, politics, dating, and pop culture—to an afterthought."

RIP Peter Falk TV's Columbo

RIP Peter Falk.

Actor Peter Falk has died aged 83, CBS radio reports.

Famous for playing Lieutenant Columbo in the television series Columbo. He appeared in numerous films and television guest roles.

A native of New York, Peter Falk began his acting career on shows Off-Broadway in the 1950's before moving to film first appearing in Wind Across the Everglades (1958), The Bloody Brood (1959) and Pretty Boy Floyd (1960)

Falk also managed minor roles in several TV drama's.

Peter Falk was of course best know for his role as Columbo in the 1960's and 70's.

Columbo was described as "an iconic cop, who always got his man" and was also described as an American Sherlock Holmes.

A TV critic wrote: "Columbo is an ass-backwards Sherlock Holmes. Holmes had a long neck, Columbo has no neck; Holmes smoked a pipe, Columbo chews up six cigars a day."

Peter Falk won four Emmy awards and one Golden Globe for his role in ‘Columbo.”

Falk has two adopted daughters from his first marriage in 1960.

He divorced his first wife and remarried in the 1970's, marring acrtess Shera Danese who guest-starred on Columbo several times.

Falk died Thursday night, his family said. Its believed Peter Falk was suffering from demintia in recent yeras.

Apple are doing what many said they would not, selling the iPhone 4 unlocked online at the Apple iPhone store.

Apple are seeling the iPhone 4 smartphone starting from US $649 for an unlocked 16G device and $749 for the 32G iPhone 4 model.

Users ofcourse will have to purchase their own sim cards from GSM carriers.

Analysts say Apple are selling the iPhone online unlocked from their store at Apple.com in order to clear as many iPhone 4 models as possible before the iPhone 5 model comes out later this year.

The most exciting news for Apple iPhone lovers world wide is the new unlocked phones will likely be cheapers to buy from the Apple US store than it is to buy the same iPhone product in thier home coutnry.

Users from Australia to Europe and China will likely see discounts of up to 25% if they buy through Apple Store US.

A blimp has crashed in Friedbeg Germany, local media reported

The Goodyear blimp was taking three news reporters for a trip around Friedberg, Germany Sunday night when the Zeppelin caught fire and began to loose control.

The hero pilot of the Goodyear blimp managed to control his Zeppelin so that his three passengers could jump out at around 5 or 6 meters.

The pilot then attempted to land the blimp before rising several dozen meters into the air again. The fire continued to rage as the Goodyear Blimp crashed to the ground, with flames engulfing the pilot, reporters from Bild and RTL TV said.

Video: A Youtube user was driving past the area when the Blimp began to loose control. The below video from Sunday 13 June 2011 shows the Zeppelin out of control before falling to the earth.

Massive Volcanic Eruption in Eritrea : Nabro or Dubbi Volcano May Have Blown

A massive volcanic eruption has taken place in Eritrea Sunday June 11 2011.

The eruption in Eritrea could be the biggest volcanic event in Africa for hundreds of years.

The volcanic eruption occurred as a series of earthquakes rattled the region in north-east Africa.

Reports said the massive eruption was of the Nabro volcano in the Afambo, Eritrea area.

The US Geological Servery reported several moderate earthquakes around magnitude 5 hit in the late afternoon and evening of Sunday June 12 2011 in the region.

Satellite imagery shows a massive ash cloud spewing into the atmosphere over 1,000 kilometers in a westerly direction toward Sudan in just a few hours.

Witnesses in Khartoum said the ash cloud had reached the city Monday morning.

Web site Earthquake-report.com reported that the eruption most likely took place at the Nabro Volcano, although it was still to be confirmed as scientists and other officials had yet to reach the isolated area.

Other reports said the volcano was actually the Dubbi volcano. The last known activity of the Dubbi volcano was in 1861. In 1400 the Dubbi volcano spewed lava that reached the Red Sea.

The Nabro volcano has no record of erupting in recent history.

The new pictures were released on Gabrielle Giffords official facebook page Sunday June 12 2011 and show the Democratic Rep. with short hair.

From Giffords Facebook: The photos were taken by P.K. Weis of SouthwestPhotoBank.com. He has worked as a photojournalist in the Southwest for about four decades. He worked at the Tucson Citizen for 36 years, including 30 as photo editor, until the paper closed in 2009. Weis has known Congresswoman Giffords for more than a decade, since before she was first elected to the Legislature.

The photos were taken May 17 at TIRR Memorial Hermann Hospital, the day after the launch of Endeavour and the day before she had her cranioplasty.

Media said former Newcastle Nights Cheerleader Tamerra Mackell took several pverseas trips with the head of the Australian Federal Police.

Questions were raised as to why Tamerra Mackell would travel with the APF head to important south Asia destination when the previous AFP boss travelled with a uniformed Australian police member.

News reports said Tamerra Mackell went with Mr Negus on trips to Indonesia, Thailand, India and Singapore as his "assistant".

News Corp Journalist Vanda Carson wrote: "It is unusual for secretaries such as Ms Mackell to travel overseas for work. The executive assistant to Mr Negus' predecessor, Mick Keelty, did not often travel with him."

"Mr Keelty usually travelled with a "staff officer" - a uniformed AFP officer who is a member of the Senior Executive Service, the highest ranks of the public service."

A New York Congressman is seeking legal advise after a lewd picture was sent to one of his followers in Seattle, Gennette Cordova.

The "weinergate" story broke on Friday night when Anthony Weiner is alleged to have sent Gennette Cordova, a Seattle college student, a Twitter update showing an image of a gentleman's pelvis.

In a short statement to the New York Daily News, Gennette Cordova said: "There have never been any inappropriate exchanges between Anthony Weiner and myself, including the tweet/picture in question, which had apparently been deleted before it reached me,” Gennette Cordova said.

Rep. Weiner said the Gennette Cordova message was done after his Twitter account was hacked, now the New York Democrat is seeking legal advise over the issue.

The Sarah Palin movie titled "The Undefeated" will "present her as a Joan of Arc-like figure beset at every turn by vicious leftwing enemies seeking to thwart her ambition of reviving the conservative legacy of Ronald Reagan," according to The Guardian.

"Rife with religious imagery, the movie will chart Palin's rise from Alaskan "soccer mom" to vice-presidential candidate," the newspaper said.

BREAKING NEWS: A major Pakistani Air Force base has been attacked by terrorists in a daring raid that has destroyed at least one aircraft at caused severe damage to buildings.

There were no word on casualties at writing, however Pakistani TV showed live pictures of various fires burning inside the Faisal Airbase in Karachi.

Ambulances were called to the Faisal Airbase and armed security forces took up defensive positions around the base. It was not clear how many terrorists were inside the PAF base.

The mystery of the crash of Air France Flight 447 has been solved, European media reported.

Preliminary information suggests the Air France Airbus A330 that crashed on June 1 2009, killing all 228 passengers and crew, was caused when the aircraft stalled, with air speed readings made redundant when vital equipment iced up over the Atlantic.

Air speed readers, called pilot tubes, may have indicated to the cockpit that the aircraft was moving at a different speed to reality. Its thought the readers froze as the plane navigated extreme weather conditions.

The crash happened just over 4 minutes several hours after take off from Brazil over he Atlantic Ocean.

Captain Marc Dubois was not in the cockpit at the start of the accident, with audio recordings, recovered in the flight box data holders recently, indicating the pilot had run into the cockpit at the start of the catastrophe.

German media quoted and unnamed expert working on the Air France Flight 447 investigation: The data recorder indicates an abrupt heaving of the machine shortly after airspeed indicators failed,"

The expert was not sure if the stalling of Air France Flight 447 was due to pilot error or the aircraft auto pilot reacting to the incorrect data.

At the time of the crash news reports indicated the crew of Air France Flight 447 had reported to air traffic that they had suffered up to 6 electrical failures on the aircraft. The plane was entering an area of weather that included frequent lighting strikes across the atmosphere and severe turbulence.

Air France 447 Captain Marc Dubois had 11,000 hours of flying experience for Air France. Captain Marc Dubois became qualified to fly the Airbus A330 in February 2007. AF Flight 447 was also an Airbus A330.

The co-pilots of Marc Dubois have been named as co-pilots David Robert and Pierre-Cedric Bonin.

A flight ban is now in force up to 300 kilometers around Grimsvotn. European flight paths have been put into chaos and its expected delays in air travel will occour in the coming days.

Small earthquakes were felt in the region around Grimsvotn and large plumes of smoke could be seen in the early daylight hours of Sunday May 22.

"The plume of smoke has reached jet flying altitude and plans have been made for planes flying through Icelandic air control space to fly southwardly tonight," authorities said of the May 22 eruption.

The Grimsvotn volcano is the most active in Iceland.

In the expletive ridden video, seen below, Justin Lawther says of Angus the Parrot:

"Not only have we just seen him on the bloody freeway doing nearly 100 kilometres an hour, but if you have a look bloody closely, his [Angus'] eyes are closed," Justin Lawther says.

A SOL Líneas Aéreas jet with 25 passengers and crew has crashed in a rural area in Rio Negro, Argentina.

The Saab 340 commuter plane crashed in a rural area in southern Argentina, reports said.

18 passengers, plus 5 crew were on the plane, very early indications suggested. The incident occoured around 10pm local time.

The SOL airlines jet reported radiod traffic control before it crashed. The aircraft reported that it was experiencing engine problems, local media said.

Witnesses to the crash in the area of Prahuaniyeu reported "a huge cloud of fire".

Local media said according the SOL Airlines jet fell off radar screens 30 to 60 kilometers from the town of Los Menucos.

An authoritiy in the area told Argentine national media that a searach party of "police, doctors, nurses, firemen and cowboys" had been sent to the remote location.

Sydney Morning Herald journalist Ben Grubb was shown by a security expert how a vulnerability in the Facebook network could be exploited to obtain privacy-protected photographs without being a Facebook "friend".

On Monday Ben Grubb published a story on the Facebook exposure flaw and police were soon investigating if any laws were broken.

That eveneing police arrested Ben Grubb at a technology security conference he was covering for more information. The police who arrested Mr Grubb were also attending the technology conference on the Gold Coast.

On Twitter Ben Grubb wrote: "Arrested by Queensland Police for a story I wrote today. They've also seized my iPad."

Not long later the Queensland police media unit took to Twitter to deny Ben Grubb was arrested.

"@bengrubb was not arrested. He was interviewed briefly by police," the Queensland plice media unit Tweeted.

The love child news appears to be behind the marriage split between Shriver and Schwarzenegger.

Millions of people in Australia were unable to access Facebook.com

People in dozens of Australian cities complained of being unable to log onto social network king Facebook Thursday December 30 2010.

Users were unable to connect to the Facebook homepage, though it appeared Facebook was still accessible via smartphone applications and on the mobile sight m.facebook.com

Internet users took to other online social media outlets to vent.

"Facebook down! Oh no, now I will have to resort to doing work"," a Twitter user from Sydney said.

"How is Facebook *still* down? Come on Zuckerberg! Justin Timberlake didn't become your friend so you could sit on your arse all day!" another user said.

There are some 12 million Australians with Facebook accounts.

St. Kilda AFL club football players in online photo scandal.

The Australian Football League is in damage control after photos of famous players from the St. Kilda Football Club were published online via social media outlets.

The images of the football players were allegedly leaked online by a 19-year-old model named Kim Duthie. It's not known how Duthie obtained the pictures of the football players in compromising positions.

The Facebook user wrote on her page: "Feel free to forward it on to everyone!!! Let's see if we can get then humiliated on the news by tonight, it'll either be that... Or I'll be in a psychiatric ward, one of the two.. Either way? Haha x."

Duthie also told Australian radio networks that she has up to 21 photos of other Aussie Rules players.

'There are players from other clubs: West Coast, Sydney, Collingwood, Richmond, Hawthorn and few of Melbourne. They are of a similar nature to the first one that came out,'' Kim Duthie said in a telephone interview.

''I will not stop until I am satisfied; it's basically just about getting revenge.''

"I'm not just a one or two trick(photo) pony!!! I'm a 21 TRICK PONY MY BEAUTIES!!!!!!," Kim Duthie wrote on her Twitter account.

The players in the photos were identified by Melbourne media outlets as Nick Riewoldt and Zac Dawson in the first photo, with Nick Dal Santo in the second photo below.
